What is a Fire Safety Certificate?

A Fire Safety Certificate is somewhat similar to Planning Permission, in that you need it before you start constructing your building and it is Granted by the Local Authority.

A Fire Safety Certificate states that if the building is constructed in accordance with the submitted application plans, calculations and compliance report, it shall comply with the Building Regulations as far as Fire Safety is concerned.

Do I need a Fire Safety Certificate for my building?

Not all buildings need a Fire Safety Certificate.  For example, a private dwelling house does not need a Fire Safety Certificate, yet an apartment building needs a Fire Safety Cert.

There are exemptions- certain building types do not need a Fire Safety Certificate and certain types of work in certain buildings are also exempt.
